Hot! Final: Huskies 4, Merrimack 2

The Huskies got off to a winning start beating Merrimack 4-2 in the opening game of the Hockey East Season.  We’ll have a game story coming soon.  For now, here are some quick hits from tonights game.

 

The Facts

  • Garrett Vermeersch, Joe Manno, Kevin Roy (PP) and Robbie Vrolyk (ENG) scored goals for the Huskies
  • Colton Saucerman, Vinny Saponari (2x), Kevin Roy, Ryan Belonger, Adam Reid, Dax Lauwers had assists.
  • Chris Rawlings made 32 saves, allowing 2 goals.
  • The Huskies were 1-6 on the power play.  Merrimack was 1-7.

  • 6 newcomers made their Northeastern debuts.  4 (Roy, Belonger, Saucerman, and Lauwers) registered a point.
  • All of the defenseman ended the night at +1 or E
  • Kevin Roy is the first freshman to score in his debut since Cody Ferriero did it in 2010.
  • This is the Huskies first win against Merrimack since December 2010.
  • This is the Huskies first win in a home opener since Bentley in 2009.

Up Next: Defending National Champs Boston College pay a visit to Matthews Arena Saturday night in what will be their first game of the season.   Puck drops at 7.  It is homecoming and the game is already close to being sold out.
